The RSPB are asking everyone to enjoy an hour in nature while counting the birds whether that is in your garden, in the park, on Seaford Head.
They want people to count the maximum number of species they see together at any one time.
They are only interested in the birds that land, not the ones flying over.
Even if you don’t see any birds they would like you to report it.
The Big Garden Birdwatch provides a snapshot in time of how garden birds are doing in the UK. It is held at a similar time every year so that the results can be compared with previous years.
According to BBC Countryfile ‘In the past 50 years, Great Britain has lost more than 38 million birds. In 2021, 70 new bird species were added to the RSPB’s Red List, meaning that 1 in 4 species are under threat.’
The number of Song Thrushs counted are down by 85% since the survey began in 1979.
The RSPB have created a handy guide on how to take part and submit your sightings which can be found here. You will also be able to download a useful guide which includes the picture below to help you identify any birds you see..

There is a list on the webpage showing the top counties taking part. At the point of writing this article East Sussex was not on the list! Help get Seaford recognised as a wonderful place to go birdwatching.
