Wrap up warm tonight and venture outside if you can. It is a very special evening!
Tonight is the Harvest Moon. It is also a Supermoon which means it will appear bigger and brighter than normal.

Moonrise in Seaford tonight will be 19:04. A good place to view the moon will be up at Seaford Head looking towards the Seven Sisters.
Harvest Moon
The Harvest Moon got its name as it is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox which takes place on September 22nd this year. It’s the time of year that the summer crops need to be harvested.
Supermoon
A supermoon is when the moon is at its closest approach to Earth in it’s 27 day orbit and also when it is at its full phase which happens every 29.5 days. There are not normally that many supermoons a year, however this is the second of four consecutive supermoons this year!
Partial Eclipse
There is also a partial eclipse of the moon in the early hours of tomorrow morning. The Penumbral eclipse starts at about 01:40 am on Wednesday 18th September, the moon at this point may start to appear dimmer. The partial eclipse starts at 03:12, this is when the moon will start to get red. At 03:44 the moon will be closest to the centre of the shadow. At 04:15 the partial eclipse ends. Finally at 05:47 the penumbral eclipse ends, by this stage the moon will be close to the horizon. There will not be another partial lunar eclipse visible in Seaford until 14th March 2025
Symbolism of the full moon
The full moon is known for magnifying emotions and intuition. It is also said to represent a time of release and completion.
