The Creative Journey of Paul Cox: Why he chose to set up his studio in Newhaven.

Paul Cox recently displayed his sculptures at the Seaford Horticultural show. They proved so popular we asked Paul what inspired his work.

Paul Cox, the talented artist behind Paul Cox Sculpture, has always been deeply influenced by his surroundings. When it came time to establish his studio and shop after graduating from the Royal Academy Schools London, Paul was irresistibly drawn to the coastal charm of Seaford and Newhaven. Nestled between the vibrant energy of the industrial port of Newhaven and the serene beauty of the South Downs, the area offers the perfect balance for both his creative process and personal life.

Newhaven became Paul’s chosen home not just for its practicality but for its inspiring environment. The great light that floods the area is ideal for an artist who relies on natural illumination to bring out the subtleties in his work. The lovely walks along the Downs, breath taking coastal views, and the fresh air give him the clarity and space to think and create. Living and working here fills Paul with joy, inspiring the artistry in each of his pieces.

Paul’s work is not only handmade but designed to last, reflecting the enduring beauty of the landscapes that surround him. Despite having a large local following, Paul meticulously crafts each piece in his Newhaven studio, ensuring that it meets the highest standards before being sent around the world to private customers and prestigious retailers like the National Trust and Royal Horticultural Society.
