South Downs National Park – have your say

The South Downs National Park Authority have begun the work of updating their Local Plan to make sure it’s up to date and addresses important issues including nature recovery, climate change and supporting local communities to thrive.

This stage of the consultation runs from the 8 July to 16 September.

There are three project documents you can comment on:-

  • Project Initiation Document (PID) – this defines the scope and issues for the plan, the resources needed to deliver it and the risks associated with the project.
  • Local Development Scheme (LDS) – this includes a timetable for the preparation and adoption of the Local Plan.
  • Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) – this sets out how the National Park will consult with all stakeholders, including local communities, business, and public bodies, on planning matters.  The National Park are proposing changes to the SCI on how they consult on draft plans, including key principles and introducing the preparation of bespoke ‘Community Involvement Plans’ for separate planning policy consultations.

These documents are available to view and comment on at: https://sdnpalocalplanreview.commonplace.is/  . Here you can also complete the Local Plan Review survey.  This asks for feedback on the scope of the Local Plan Review and what important issues it should address.

For 13 to 25-year-olds there is a “youth survey”, with the chance to enter a prize draw for a £50 gift voucher.

You can also select the ‘Your South Downs National Park – Map’ option to place a pin on all of the places within the park that are important to you that you wish to comment on, whether this is Seaford Head with the world famous Seven Sisters view, Hope Gap Steps, Friston Forest, Coastguard Cottages, Tide Mills to name just a few of the special places close by. Seaford is surrounded by the South Downs National Park and so it it’s important as many residents as possible have their say on it’s future.

Below is a YouTube video to remind you how special the Seven Sisters Country Park is and why it is important we all get involved in protecting this wonderful landscape.
