Friends of Tide Mills

The Friends of Tide Mills was formed in 2015 with the modest aims of raising awareness and appreciation of this, at the time, relatively undervalued, open space right on our doorstep.

Since 2015 we have steadily grown in membership to just over 20, mainly local, volunteers. We can now say that our initial aims have been achieved. Tide Mills is firmly “on the map” now and very much appreciated as the peaceful, rather mysterious, environment it undoubtedly is.

The regular litter sweeps we and other local groups and individuals undertake has now resulted in litter being reduced significantly, certainly compared to when we started.

The Friends of Tide Mills have built an excellent working relationship with Newhaven Port Authority, the land owners. Most of the area now lies within the South Downs National Park, there are now excellent information boards scattered around the old village provided by the Sussex Archaeological Society. These are all major steps in ensuring Tide Mills is championed and protected so that it remains the peaceful space it is for us all both now and into the future….

As always we welcome new members to our little band, please contact me at brianjimskinner@gmail.com for more information. We meet every third Sunday of the Month throughout the year for around two hours from 9 until 11, you will be made most welcome.
