Hope Gap Steps

There was a meeting of the Community Services Committee of Seaford Town Council on 30th May 2024. One of the agenda items was the proposal to ‘leave Hope Gap steps closed for the foreseeable future for health and safety reasons, and instruct officers to facilitate the Town Council considering the permanent future of Hope Gap steps within a two year period’.

Many local residents attended the meeting and made a case for further investigations to take place before a decision was made. Concerns were raised that access to Hope Gap along the shore from Cuckmere Haven was not a safe option as many people have been caught out by the incoming tide.

Eventually it was agreed the steps will remain closed for the Summer 2024 season. Expert advice is going to be sought to identify the issues and possible solutions in the hope the steps can be repaired.

The Hope Gap steps hold a special place in the heart of many Seaford residents and it would be a shame if they were closed permanently.

We will keep you updated of any information as and when we hear it.
